PDF Document Translator converts documents into 108 languages while preserving the original layout. This page covers how to get started, answers to common questions, and how to reach us.

Getting started

On the web

  1. Open the translator and upload a PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel or text file.
  2. Choose a target language, or let the source language be detected automatically.
  3. Select Translate. Your translated file keeps the original formatting.

In Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  1. Install the add-in, then open Word, Excel or PowerPoint.
  2. On the Home tab, select Translate to open the side pane, and sign in with your Microsoft account.
  3. Choose Translate this document for the file you have open, or Choose from OneDrive to pick a PDF or Office file from your OneDrive.
  4. Pick one or more target languages and select Translate. Finished files are saved to your OneDrive under Document Translator / <Language>.

In Google Drive™

  1. Install the PDF Document Translator add-on, then select one or more files in Google Drive™.
  2. Open PDF Document Translator from the side panel.
  3. Choose your target languages and select Translate. Results are saved to a "PDF Document Translator" folder in your Drive (one subfolder per language). Reopen pending batches and recent results from the add-on homepage.
  4. Select Check status to check immediately. Background checks run hourly when available. If background checking is unavailable, return to the batch and select Check status to save completed files to Drive.

Which file types are supported?

PDF, Word (DOCX), PowerPoint (PPTX), Excel (XLSX) and plain text (TXT).

How many languages are available?

108 languages, with automatic source-language detection.

How does pricing work?

Translation is charged in page credits: one credit per page, per target language. New accounts start with 2 free page credits, and there is no subscription requirement. You can buy more credits at any time on the pricing page. Purchases are handled by our payment provider, not through the app stores.

Are there any limits?

Each file may be up to 40 MB. In the add-ins you can translate up to 10 files into up to 10 languages at once, up to a maximum of 20 translations per batch.

Is my document kept after translation?

No. Documents are processed to produce your translation and are not retained afterwards. See the privacy policy for details on how data is handled.

Why does the translation take a while?

Large documents are translated as a background job so that layout, tables and images can be rebuilt faithfully. You can keep working while it runs; the add-ins show progress and links to finished files.

Can my organization share one pool of credits?

Yes. Work and school accounts can be set up with a shared organization credit pool so that everyone draws from the same balance. Contact us to enable it.
